Not Good To Be Alone

By Nick Dalgety

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him” (GENESIS 2:18).

Relationships. As a Christian I believe in one God yet three Persons in nature, namely Father, Son and Holy Spirit  – a truth revealed overtime in the Bible. Therefore relationship is at the heart of who God is and where love, commitment and trust arise.

Now God wants Adam to experience this with another created person – Eve, a helpmate who can then worship her Creator as well as be a loving support to Adam.

Later in the biblical journey we learn of Solomon, a future king of Israel who wrote the book of Ecclesiastes. Here we read, “Two are better than one for they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up. Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone?”

For Man to procreate a man and a woman must come together although Man is seeking to circumvent this divine reality.

The truth of two creatures working together is built into all of creation. Here are two canoists at Kaiteri Beach in Nelson.

Then two cattle in South Westland wanting to know what I am up to! Finally, two alpacas in Nelson curious at my presence and two tamarillos resting side by side.

So God acts. He forms Eve from the rib of Adam and the journey of Mankind begins!

About the Author

Nick Dalgety is a Kiwi born in Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. In recent times my wife and I have made Nelson in the top of the South Island home.

My day job involves working with people making a living from land and sea. In my spare time my passion is taking pictures that celebrate what is iconic about Aotearoa New Zealand. Inevitably this involves discovering amazing people, in their special place making and doing what they do best.

When travelling overseas, I often seek out similar experiences. I created Provenance101 to share these experiences.
