Man To Cultivate

By Nick Dalgety

Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it (GENESIS 2:15).

Right from the start God intended that Man have real purpose in life. Here Man was to cultivate the land and care for the creatures that inhabited the Garden.

There is real satisfaction and peace that comes when we discover the purpose we are here on earth for. The main role God calls Man to fulfill is to work the land.

The photo shows a small garden in a town called Punakaiki, on the wild West Coast of New Zealand. The garden is nestled between cliff face and sea. Admittedly some distance from Eden yet it highlights the universal truth that we must have land with the right microclimate to produce food to sustain us.

God’s love for Man is clear as He prepares the Garden before He places Man in it. All the essentials for success were there – good soils, light, a mist and a river system to water the plants.

What could possibly go wrong?

God saw everything that He had made and indeed it was very good. Painting owned by my late father-in-law, Peter.

About the Author

Nick Dalgety is a Kiwi born in Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. In recent times my wife and I have made Nelson in the top of the South Island home.

My day job involves working with people making a living from land and sea. In my spare time my passion is taking pictures that celebrate what is iconic about Aotearoa New Zealand. Inevitably this involves discovering amazing people, in their special place making and doing what they do best.

When travelling overseas, I often seek out similar experiences. I created Provenance101 to share these experiences.
