Your Love Oh Lord…

By Nick Dalgety

Here I am. In a world trying to deal with Today. Don’t know what tomorrow will bring. Enemies within and enemies without, appear. What I thought was a firm foundation, can sometimes crumble.

I get that way sometimes. I cast my mind back to an earlier day. In the mid 1990’s raising our two children with my wife and a third child just around the corner. Living in Wellington; not New York I admit but the big smoke here in New Zealand!

Our journey as Christians was well under way. A great encouragement at that time was the opportunity to play music by Christian artists who drew strongly from scripture.

Here is one song that lifted me up in those days. It is by Third Day and titled Your Love Oh Lord and the music group draws strongly from Psalm 36:

Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. [PSALM 36:5-6a]

Here God draws on the grandeur of His creation – heavens, skies, mountains and deep oceans – to paint a picture of His character that you and I can rely on. His character includes love, faithfulness, righteousness and justice.

For me, no greater proof of God’s character exceeds that of My Messiah, Yeshua, being willing to hang on a tree 1 to deal with my sin. What love is this, indeed!

1 A great Got Questions article on the significance of Yeshua’s earthly journey, passing through Calvary…. yet ultimately rising from the dead!

About the Author

Nick Dalgety is a Kiwi born in Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. In recent times my wife and I have made Nelson in the top of the South Island home.

My day job involves working with people making a living from land and sea. In my spare time my passion is taking pictures that celebrate what is iconic about Aotearoa New Zealand. Inevitably this involves discovering amazing people, in their special place making and doing what they do best.

When travelling overseas, I often seek out similar experiences. I created Provenance101 to share these experiences.
