The meaning of sweet as sums up the truly laid-back attitude of New Zealanders. It can mean “thank you”, “it’s all good”, “no worries”, “you’re welcome”, and “that’s cool”.
This is the definition given on the 100% Pure New Zealand website.
Sweet As. Yes, in one way. Here in Kiwi Land, New Zealand, we are blessed with so much. Rugged land; founded on pioneering spirit; curious and creative.
Sweet As is also the name of a Cafe at the top end of Trafalgar St, Nelson where I love to read the Word and put a story together. I recommend going there if you visit Nelson.
Yet, if we are honest, for many there is a void inside our hearts.
Paul the apostle wrote a letter to a young but growing church in Phillipi. They were getting anxious about growing persecution. Things in this world were not sweet as.
So Paul encouraged them to pray with thanksgiving to their Messiah, Yeshua (Jesus). Then they would know real peace that only the Messiah, not this World, can bring.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. [PHILLIPIANS 4:6-7]
John, the apostle also gave this same assurance not to be afraid, recalling Yeshua’s words just before His death, “peace I leave with you, my peace I give you”.
Are we anxious. Do we lack peace. Are all around us saying sweet as when it is not.
Coming to trust in Messiah Yeshua brings REAL PEACE.

Nick Dalgety is a Kiwi born in Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. In recent times my wife and I have made Nelson in the top of the South Island home.
My day job involves working with people making a living from land and sea. In my spare time my passion is taking pictures that celebrate what is iconic about Aotearoa New Zealand. Inevitably this involves discovering amazing people, in their special place making and doing what they do best.
