Provenance 101 Logo Explained

By Nick Dalgety

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. [JOHN 1:1-5]

I thought it was important to speak to the logo1 that I have created for Provenance 101.

First, Yeshua (commonly known as Jesus), lies at the heart of the logo and is purposely lodged sitting above the Garden of Eden text. He is my Messiah and His name means Salvation. I believe, based on the Word of God, that Yeshua is the creator of all things and this includes the Garden where Man’s walk began. He is confirmed as the Creator right at the start of John’s gospel, noted above.

The Garden of Eden is that unique place God created to fellowship with you and I. We are exiled through our (Adam and Eve) choices, yet a new Garden awaits for all who put their faith in Yeshua as their Messiah.

Provenance 101 is the concept I developed several years ago to celebrate what is iconic or unique about place. Yet now I am providing a critical biblical foundation to the site.

Much of the New Zealand imagery is related to the regions of the West Coast and Nelson where I have experienced special times in my life. Today though, the Garden for me is pre-eminent.

The logo also highlights the Tree of Life that grew in the midst of the Garden and will be present at the end of time in the New Jerusalem existing in the new heaven and earth.

This tree displays bright green leaves and is laden with fruit. The fruit represents the gifts of the Spirit and the leaves, the actions arising from these gifts.

The scenic backdrop to the logo is a special place on NZ’s West Coast. It is an image I took of Lake Haupiri, a short drive up the Valley from Nelson Creek where my amazing grandmother Ella spent her childhood. It also provides a picture for me of that Garden of old.

The red colour reminds me of the blood my Savior shed at the cross for you and me while the blue speaks to life giving water and Yeshua’s words in John’s gospel:

If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.

Finally, the surrounding green wreath represents for me the crown of thorns placed on my Messiah’s head for my sin yet also the crown when He will be acknowledged by all in a coming day as the King of kings and Lord of lords.

About the Author

Nick Dalgety is a Kiwi born in Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. In recent times my wife and I have made Nelson in the top of the South Island home.

My day job involves working with people making a living from land and sea. In my spare time my passion is taking pictures that celebrate what is iconic about Aotearoa New Zealand. Inevitably this involves discovering amazing people, in their special place making and doing what they do best.

When travelling overseas, I often seek out similar experiences. I created Provenance101 to share these experiences.
