Sharing what is unique about place

Provenance speaks to the uniqueness of place. The Garden of Eden is where it all began and I believe it is built into our DNA to search it out.

The 101 touches on our openness to learn new things, rediscover ways of life valued in the past and also the fact that 101 is the number of the street where we live!

The concept of provenance is growing in importance as communities seek real alternatives to current day social disconnection and pressures to globalise.

In my home town of Nelson, I sense people want to get their food more directly from our growers rather that big box supermarkets.  As this trend grows it will allow growers to thrive and also create a more village like sense of community.

The Garden of Eden is where it all began and it is built into our DNA to search it out.

What is most unique about place always comes back to those who live there.

Then God saw everything that He had made, and it was very good.

Creation - how it all began

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so.

Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Nick Dalgety

Director, Provenance101

I love the region where I live, Nelson New Zealand. I am a follower of Yeshua (Jesus) and this truth lies at the core of what Provenance101 is all about. I believe knowing the God of the Bible, learning lessons from the Garden of Eden and other dramatic biblical events will provide answers to the challenges we face.

It’s great connecting with people who are involved in working the land. To capture experience, my Canon camera is often close at hand, whether in NZ or travelling overseas.

Visits to the Middle East, Israel and Australia and more recently to countries like China and India help provide me with insight into other distinct cultures. I’ve found learning the basics of language, like French, Mandarin and Hebrew, help to open doors for conversation.

I welcome your thoughts on what is displayed and spoken to on Provenance101.
