A sad and lonely looking fig
I have two potted fig trees and one is in our back garden. Sadly, just one fig rests upon the tree supported by just one fig leaf!
The fig is so small; almost insignificant. I thought I had nurtured the tree well; given it fertiliser and water. Also, I pruned branches in season.
A message of hope for the downcast
Sometimes my walk of faith feels like that little fruit. I am only able to draw on energy from one leaf that is starting to lose shape in the hot sun. Yet; I must not forget that the fig and leaf draws strength from the trunk and root system of the tree.
Drawing from the story of the vine in John’s gospel, I, as a branch, am called to abide in Him. The Father is able to remove the dead wood and allow the fruit to mature, so that even more fruit will form.
Does The World say you have no worth?
Yeshua (Jesus) also gives encouraging words for the downcast; those called of no worth by The World. He shared on the Mount overlooking the Sea of Galilee:
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. [MATTHEW 5:5]
Yeshua calls the meek to a road of patience; to humbly submit to Him. Remembering this is the road He walked down and the prize of eternity with Him is worth it.
Recall the words of the Apostle Paul, as an encouragement to those of us who have come to believe:
… God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are.. 1 CORINTHIANS 1: 27-28]
Yeshua wants to work with you and me!
So do not be anxious if you are deemed foolish, weak, base and despised and are not. Acknowledge your reality and Yeshua will lift you up. He will be willing to use you for His kingdom, just like He was and is willing to use me!
