FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS

Reading the signs

Here I am in Pics cafe in Nelson. As I sit and read from the Word, I work to shape a story.

We are living in dramatic days. We need to realise that Yeshua (Jesus), the promised Messiah and the Son of God – the One who made the heavens and the earth – is returning.

In His mercy He is providing Mankind with signs regarding His return, yet only the wise will understand.

Today, Jewish people throughout the world will celebrate Purim, recounted in the book of Esther. This account recalls the miraculous rescue of the Jewish people from the evil Haman of Persia which is current day Iran.

Haman through deception had King Ahasuerus pronounce a decree to destroy all the Jews who were throughout his whole kingdom.

The words in the title were uttered by Mordecai, the uncle of Esther (Hadassah) to act to save her people:

And Mordecai told them to answer Esther: “Do not think in your heart that you will escape in the king’s palace any more than all the other Jews. 14 For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” [ESTHER 4:13-14]

Esther acted, calling the Jews of the capital Sushan, to fast for three days. She said, “O will go to the king, which is against the law, and if I perish, I perish!”

Esther does not perish. The curse that Haman enacted against the Jews came back on his own head. He, along with his ten sons, was hanged on the gallows prepared for Mordecai’s death!

Indeed Esther, Mordecai and the Jewish people fasted and cried out to God’s. The doors of heaven were opened and God acted to defend His chosen people in their day.

Just as he is acting in our day to defend His people against the demonically animated regime ruling in Iran.

I thought the doors of this cafe opening (below) help bring this reality of the heavens opening, to life.

About the Author

Nick Dalgety is a Kiwi born in Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. In recent times my wife and I have made Nelson in the top of the South Island home.

My day job involves working with people making a living from land and sea. In my spare time my passion is taking pictures that celebrate what is iconic about Aotearoa New Zealand. Inevitably this involves discovering amazing people, in their special place making and doing what they do best.

When travelling overseas, I often seek out similar experiences. I created Provenance101 to share these experiences.
