Man and His Wife Hid

By Nick Dalgety

They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden (GENESIS 3:8).

Adam and Eve are together for the scripture says they heard the Lord God. The cycle of night and day has commenced for they are both in the Garden and it is in the cool of the evening. For those of us that have experienced days of intense heat, there is something special when the sun goes down and temperatures drop.

The Lord God is walking in the garden so it is not just a spiritual presence. He is seeking them out. Something is not right though. Why are Adam and Eve wanting to hide from their Creator? They try to conceal themselves by hiding behind some trees.

The truth is that the serpent who had entered the Garden was more cunning than any beast of the field. He enticed Eve and she chose to eat fruit from the outlawed tree of the knowledge of good and evil. She then gave the forbidden fruit to Adam.

What will the consequence of this brazen act by both Adam and Eve be, having disobeyed God’s clear command? The question is, would you or I have acted differently – sadly I think not!
