The Lord God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed (GENESIS 2:8).
God makes known in the first chapter of Genesis a sweeping account of the creation of the earth, the heavens, plants, animals, birds, fish and ultimately Man.
God then turns His attention to the planting of a Garden using Moses as the scribe, in a latter day, of the book of Genesis, along with the four other original books of the Bible (The Torah).
We learn that this Garden planted by God is like no other – beautiful for situation and towards the east in Eden. We do not know the exact location as the great flood of Noah’s day removed evidence. However reference to rivers like the Tigris and the Euphrates in the Genesis account means that it must have been in biblical lands.
The Garden was to be this spectacular place where God would fellowship with Man for eternity. Clearly relationship with Man was at the heart of God’s purposes however this plan was cut short.
We will discover more about this tragedy of a plan cut short yet also of God’s redemptive act in upcoming short stories.
We will bring to life in Provenance 101 some of the plants that would have existed in the Garden, lessons that they can teach us today, and other biblical truths essential for understanding the dramatic days we live in.
